Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who ruled Punjab for 40 years, celebrated his 180th death anniversary on Thursday 27th June. The statue was inaugurated in Lahore, Pakistan. The statue is located in an open space outside the Mai Jandi mansion in Lahore Fort. This place is close to Ranjit Singh Samadhi and Guru Arjan Dev’s Gurdwara Dera Sahib. Ranjit Singh was born on November 13, 1780 in Pakistan.
They are counted among the great Maharajas of the Sikhs. Ranjit Singh was a man who not only united Punjab as a strong province, but also the surviving British did not let his kingdom fall.
In 1798, on the return of Jaman Shah from the Punjab, Lahore took over and made it the capital. At the age of 17, he defeated the invader Jaman Shah Durrani who invaded India. He became the Maharaja of Punjab at the age of 21.
Let me tell you, in childhood his eyesight was lost due to a disease of chicken pox in his eye. When an eye was lit because of smallpox, he used to say, ‘God has given me an eye, so I see all Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, the rich and the poor who see it’.
Let me tell you that Ranjit Singh was not educated, but he encouraged education and art in his state. He established law and order in Punjab and never punished anyone.
- Maharaja Ranjit Singh had many marriages. In which their wives belonged to the Sikh, Muslim and Hindu religions. He is said to have married 20 times. Of all the brides, Queen Jandian (Jind Kor) was his favorite wife.
- Maharaja ruled Punjab for 40 years (1801-1839). He made his kingdom so powerful that the invading army did not dare to look at his kingdom more closely during his life. Ranjit Singh died on June 27, 1839. At that time, she was 59 years old.
